Президент Зімбабве Роберт Мугабе, який перебував при владі з 1980 року, відмовився піти у відставку

93-річного Мугабе помістили під домашній арешт після того, як 15 листопада владу в країні перебрали військові.

За словами силовиків, вони досягли прогресу в боротьбі зі "злочинцями" з оточення Мугабе, але не повідомляють деталей.

15 листопада в країні затримали низку високопосадовців. Військові у телезверненні заявили, що повідомлять народу про результати переговорів із паном Мугабе "якомога швидше".

Лідер опозиції заявив, що "негайна відставка" президента в "інтересах народу".

Кореспондент BBC у Зімбабве Андрю Гардінг каже, що якщо Мугабе переконають офіційно скласти повноваження, це допоможе легітимізувати втручання військових. Кореспондент додає, що на вулицях важно знайти тих, хто хоче, аби президент залишився.

Але переговори про те, як саме він відійде від влади і яким буде перехідний період, можуть зайняти деякий час.
