У Ташкенті на 79 році життя помер президент Узбекистану Іслам Карімов.

За даними джерел агентства "Фергана", смерть настала о 15-16 годині за ташкентським часом (о 13-14 годині за київським часом), пише Українська правда

Жодних відомостей від офіційної влади Узбекистану щодо цього поки не надходило.

Джерело УП в оточенні президента Карімова підтвердило інформацію про смерть глави держави.

У той же час джерело РИА Новости в Апараті президента Узбекистану не підтвердило інформації про смерть Карімова. За інформацією видання, стан керівника держави стабільний.

Іслам Абдуганіевіч Карімов народився 30 січня 1938 року в Самарканді (Узбецька РСР) в сім'ї службовця.

24 березня 1990 року на сесії Верховної Ради Узбецької РСР Карімов був обраний президентом Узбецької РСР. Обраний президентом на альтернативній основі ще раз в 1991 році.

У 1995 році термін президентських повноважень Карімова знову був продовжений до 2000 року. У 2000, 2007 і 2015 роках він незмінно обирався главою держави. Був одружений, у нього дві дочки - Гульнара і Лола.

Вранці 27 серпня 2016 року Іслам Карімов переніс інсульт.
