Американський журналіст Адріан Чен опублікував на сторінках The New York Times розслідування про діяльність російської «фабрики тролів» - «Агентства інтернет-досліджень».

Автор статті дійшов висновку, що «російську інформаційну війну можна вважати наймасштабнішим тролінгом в історії інтернету, а її жертва - не що інше, як інтернет як демократичного простору»,пише Телекритика.

Адріан Чен намагався з'ясувати, хто фінансує «фабрику тролів». Він наводить припущення російських ЗМІ, що це може бути справою рук російського власника мережі ресторанів Євгенія Прігожина, підприємства якого, за даними журналіста, залучають до кейтерингу заходів Кремля.

Журналіст дійшов висновку, що до створення роликів «Агентства інтернет-досліджень» залучають студією «Інфосьрфінг», що займається виробництвом пропагандистської інфографіки для Instagram і «Вконтакте» на замовлення Кремля.

Як переконався журналіст після випадків штучно організованої паніки в американському інтернеті, для проведення таких кампаній почав діяти англомовний відділ «фабрики». «В одному з документів описуєтьсяпроект під назвою World Translation, - йдеться в статті NYT. - За словами його авторів, в зарубіжному інтернеті на одну позитивну думку про Росію припадає чотири негативних, і завдання проекту - змінити цю пропорцію. В іншому листі був список акаунтів, якими користувалися тролі агентства в англомовних мережах...».
