Нобелівські лавреати закликали Сенат відхилити кандидатуру Кеннеді-молодшого на посаду міністра охорони здоров'я і соціальних служб  США.  Лист із заявою підписали 77 лавреатів.

Автори листа застерігають, що призначення Кеннеді на посаду голови DHHS поставить під загрозу здоров'я населення і підірве світове лідерство Америки в галузі охорони здоров'я.

 За словами одного з підписантів — Річарда Робертса, лавреата Нобелівської премії з фізіології та медицини 1993 року, це перший випадок за останній час, коли нобеліанти об'єдналися проти вибору Кабінету міністрів, пише  The New York Times

«Затвердження Кеннеді, затятого критика традиційної медицини, який вороже ставився до науковців та установ, які він мав би контролювати, є загрозою, яку нобелівські лавреати не могли проігнорувати», — сказав Робертс.
