Престижну американську Премію свободи цього року присуджено російському опозиціонеру Борису Нємцову - посмертно.

Сенатор-республіканець Джон Маккейн вручив нагороду давньому другу і соратнику російського опозиціонера - заступнику голови Партії народної свободи журналісту Володимиру Кара-Мурзі-молодшому, повідомляє Укрінформ

Борису Нємцову Премія свободи-2015 була присуджена "за життя, присвячене просуванню демократії в Росії".

Лауреатами престижної нагороди цьогоріч стали також спікер палати представників конгресу США Джон Бейнер і підприємець і меценат із Судану Мо Ібрагім.

Премія свободи вручається в США Міжнародним республіканським інститутом з 1995 року. Її лауреатами стають люди, які внесли значний внесок у розвиток свободи і демократії у світі. У різні роки цієї нагороди були удостоєні президент США Рональд Рейган, лідер опозиції у М'янмі Аун Сан Су Чжі, радянський дисидент Натан Щаранський, президент Ліберії Еллен Джонсон-Сірліф і Папа Іоанн Павло II (посмертно).

Нагадаємо, російський опозиційний політик Борис Нємцов був застрелений у ніч проти 28 лютого біля Кремля.
