В Гонолулу, одному з найбільших міст Гавайських островів, набув чинності закон, згідно з яким пішоходи, які переходять вулицю й при цьому дивляться в смартфон, можуть отримати штраф на суму від 15 до 35 доларів.

Якщо порушника спіймають знову, штраф збільшиться до 99 доларів, пише Media Sapiens із посиланням на The New York Times. Гонолулу стало першим великим містом у світі, яке прийняло подібний закон. Муніципальна рада вважає, що новий закон встановлює високий стандарт щодо безпеки мешканців міста. В раді також звертають увагу на те, що в 2016 році у США смертність пішоходів і збільшилася на 9 відсотків порівняно з попереднім роком й становить 5987 осіб. Це найбільший показник від 1990 року. Як одну з причин зростання смертності на дорогах чиновники розглядають неуважність через відволікання на гаджети.

Остаточно закон проти так званих «смартфонних зомбі» був прийнятий міською владою в липні цього року. Він передбачає виняток для дзвінків у екстрені служби («швидка», поліція, пожежна служба), за ці дії штрафувати не будуть.

Також минулого року влада німецького міста Аугсбург розмістила спеціальні сигнальні вогні на пішоходних переходах, щоб люди, які на ходу користуються смартфонами, теж помічали їх. Мерія піщла на такий крок після того, як 15-річну дівчину збив трамвай. Вона переходила колію в навушниках та при цьому дивилась у свій смартфон.
