Канцлер Німеччини Ангела Меркель після програшу місцевих виборів заявила, що не ображається на виборців через їхнє голосування за правих популістів.
 

Під час виступу в бундестазі у середу, 7 вересня, Меркель прокоментувала програш своєї партії на місцевих виборах в землі Мекленбург — Передня Померанія. Частину її виступу для сайту Еспресо переклала наш позаштатний автор, художниця Віра Вайсберг:

"Ми зараз всі стоїмо перед питанням — як реагувати на це. Сварити виборців — ні до чого не приведе. Це також і недоречно, і невірно. Але політики, що несуть тягар відповідальності, — як усі ми тут, — повинні у будь-якому випадку бути виваженими у своїх висловлюваннях" (оплески).

"Тому що, якщо і ми почнемо вербальну ескалацію у наших дебатах, то вигравати будуть лише ті, що висловлюються все простіше і все примітивніше (оплески). І якщо ми почнемо брати участь у замилювані чи ігноруванні фактів, то відповідальні та конструктивні відповіді на виклики будуть неможливі".
