Як пише The Guardian король Фредерік шокував істориків, прибравши з герба три корони, символ Кальмарської унії між Данією, Норвегією та Швецією, який був складовою частиною королівського герба впродовж 500 років. 

Натомість на гербі (праворуч) з’явилися збільшені зображення білого ведмедя та барана, які символізують Гренландію та Фарерські острови. 

Таким чином Фредерік виказав чіткій намір зберегти данський суверенітет над автономними територіями після того, як Дональд Трамп наприкінці грудня виказав пропозицію придбати Гренландію та включити її у склад США.
