Компанія Google заборонила використовувати свою мережу як проксі, чим закрила лазівку, за допомогою якої сайти могли обходити інтернет-цензуру.
 

Як пише Media Sapiens із посиланням на The Verge, компанія припинила підтримувати технологію, яка дозволяла використовувати мережу Google як маскування. Розробники могли перенаправляти трафік своїх сервісів через домен пошуковика, використовуючи його як проксі.

Оновлення почало працювати для усіх сервісів компанії і через нього можуть виникнути проблеми в низки інструментів для обходу цензури, таких як Signal, GretFire.org, VPN-сервіси Psiphon.

В Google прокоментували, що збиралися відключити цю функцію давно й не планують її відновлення у майбутньому.

Раніше через спроби російського регулятора Роскомнагляд заблокувати в країні месенджер Telegram під блокування потрапили мільйони IP-адрес Amazon і Google. Це призвело до порушень в роботі інших сервісів та сайтів, які використовували для роботи хмарні платформи цих компаній.
