Премію World Press Photo отримав фотограф Бурхан Озбіліджі (Burhan Ozbilici), який зняв вбивство російського посла в Туреччині Андрія Карлова.
 

Фотограф агентства Associated Press зробив з місця події фоторепортаж. Але World Press Photo нагородили премією лише один знімок, пише Media Sapiens

Нагадаємо, 19 грудня в Анкарі був застрелений Андрій Карлов, посол Росії в Туреччині. Нападника згодом ідентифікували як 22-річного Мевлюта Мерта Алтинташа (Mevlut Mert Altintas), турецького поліцейського. Під час стрілянини він вигукува: «Не забудьте Алеппо! Не забудьте Сирію!».  Фотограф Associated Press Бурхан Озбілічі був серед фотокореспондентів, які висвітлювали відкриття виставки.

Як згодом повідомив телеканал CNN Turk, суд заборонив турецьким ЗМІ висвітлювати розслідування вбивства посла Андрія Карлова.
