Про те, що незалежний фільммейкер українського походження, яка зняла також стрічку "Дітки в порядку", Ліза Холоденко візьметься за екранізацію роману Елізабет Страут, стало відомо ще в середині літа 2013. Чотирисерійний міні-серіал, у головних ролях якого знялися Джон Галлахер - молодший, Білл Мюррей, Френсіс Макдорманд, Зої Казан і Річард Дженкінс, був знятий на замовлення телегіганта HBO.

У прокат стрічка вийшла в кінці 2014 року. Раніше фільм був номінований у трьох категоріях премії Golden Globe: "Найкращий міні-серіал", "Найкраща актриса в міні-серіалі" і "Найкращий актор другого плану" (Білл Мюррей). Серіал "Олівія Кіттерідж" також був представлений у позаконкурсній програмі Венеціанського кінофестивалю.
