Как пишет газета New York Post, американский спортивный телеканал ESPN сократит 100 сотрудников. Соответствующее письмо уже было разослано им. Среди уволенных – комментатор NFL Эд Вердер, который подтвердил это в своем Twitter.

Кроме него, под сокращения попали хоккейные обозреватели Пьер Лебрун, Скотт Бернсайд и Джо Макдональд, Дана О'Нил, специализирующаяся на студенческих соревнованиях, и футбольный корреспондент Майк Л. Гудман.

Среди причин такого решения издание The Federalist выделяет, в частности, падение рейтингов телеканала и чрезмерное вложение средств на приобретение прав на спортивные трансляции. С начала года рейтинг ESPN упал на 7%, рейтинг ESPN2 – на 34%.
