Колишній головний редактор The Guardian Алан Расбріджер (Alan Rusbridger) вважає, що Facebook поглинув майже 20 мільйонів фунтів стерлінгів доходів від цифрової реклами в минулому році.

У квітні 2015 року, коли Расбріджер ще працював в The Guardian, керівники прогнозували виручку в £100 мільйонів.

Алан Расбріджер, який нині очолює коледж Lady Margaret Hall в Оксфордському університеті, розповів, що зрештою грошовий обіг з діджитал-реклами склав £81.9 мільйон, що на 2.3% менше, ніж у 2014.

Виступаючи на FT Weekend Live Festival у Лондоні, Расбріджер відзначив, що прогнози The Guardian так і не матеріалізувалися, «тому що все пішло Facebook».

Представник The Guardian відмовився від коментарів. Під час публікації щоденного звіту в липні джерела у виданні звинувачували онлайн-гішантів, включно з Google та Facebook, у зниженні рекламних доходів. Расбріджер відзначив, що Facebook дійсно надає деякі можливості для видавців, однак «забере всі гроші», так як «у них є алгоритми, які ми не розуміємо, які є фільтрами між тим, що робимо ми, і як люди отримують це».

Нагадуємо, раніше The Guardian звинуватив Facebook у безвідповідальності. Це було пов'язано з тим, що новий алгоритм Facebook виніс у пріоритет фейкову історію про ведучу Fox News Мегін Келлі.
