«17 канал», снявший и разместивший в интернете видео, где еще живого журналиста Павла Шеремета достали из взорвавшейся машины, объяснил, что его съемочная группа оказалась на месте происшествия случайно. 
 
 
"Взрыв услышала съемочная группа «Разведки», находясь на улице выше в ожидании записать интервью с мэром столицы Виталием Кличко возле его дома для грядущего сюжета о декоммунизации. Журналист и оператор отправились на место и сняли происходящее", - сообщили на канале.
 
Однако народный депутат Дмитрий Белоцерковец такое объяснение не считает правдивым.
"Учитывая, что мэр Киева в официальном отпуске и находится не в стране, то никакого интервью на Б. Хмельницкого быть не могло... Такое вранье наталкивает на определенные мысли, а другую легенду не смогли выдумать, сразу видно, что придумывали на ходу, может, потому что правда-то неоднозначна?" - написал он на своей странице в Facebook.
 
Также нардеп отметил, что «17 канал» вещает только в интернете и является "этаким аккуратным пророссийским форпостом в интернет-медиапространстве Украины".
