Правоцентристская партия «Народ свободы» бывшего премьер-министра Италии Сильвио Берлускони сменила название на «Вперед, Италия!» («Forza, Italia!»), сообщает  со ссылкой на Agence France-Presse. Соответствующее решение было принято на съезде руководства партии в пятницу, 25 октября.

Во встрече, на которой было принято решение о переименовании партии, не приняли участие ряд ее высокопоставленных руководителей, в том числе секретарь «Народа свободы» Анжелино Альфано.

Ранее название «Вперед, Италия!» носила партия Берлускони, существовавшая с 1994 по 2009 годы. Впоследствии «Вперед, Италия!» вошла вместе с рядом других политических движений в состав правоцентристской коалиции «Народ свободы».

О намерении переименовать «Народ свободы» стало известно летом 2012 года. В качестве одной из причин переименования называлось падение популярности «Народа свободы». Предполагалось, что под именем «Вперед, Италия!» партия примет участие в парламентских выборах в Италии весной 2013 года.
